Dogs in public spaces - Behaviour change without enforcement

^

This half day virtual course will provide delegates with a heightened understanding of why walkers with dogs do what they do in the outdoors, and how best to influence their behaviours using a wide range of practical interventions from across the UK and internationally.

- Tuesday 10th December 2024 (4.5 hrs)

The trainer Stephen Jenkinson has been a manager of access to the outdoors in town, coast and country for 32 years, half of that specialising in more effective ways to influence dog walker behaviour. His approach to management and training helps people support the human health benefits of dog walking while minimising any adverse impacts on livestock, wildlife or other people.

He wrote the UK’s first planning guidance for dog ownership in new housing developments and was a special advisor to the 2017 All-Party Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare investigation into sheep worrying. Apart from Keep Britain Tidy, Stephen works for a wide range of organisations across the UK, including Forestry England, Natural England, Kennel Club, Wildlife Trusts and local authorities.

Further afield Stephen worked in Bosnia for the United Nations to guide community initiatives to minimise conflict from free-ranging dogs; in San Francisco he advised officials on how to manage dog walking in a city with more canines than children.
