National Enforcement Academy

This CIWM-accredited enforcement training course is suitable for those responsible for enforcing environmental crime with the aim to develop a common and consistent enforcement approach across England. The Enforcement Academy has been developed to take enforcement officers on a journey through the maze of environmental law and the powers available to tackle crime that impacts on our communities and neighbourhoods. The training delivery is interactive with lots of real life case studies and examples - this makes the Academy fun with lots of opportunity to share knowledge and ideas that can be adopted on the front line for outstanding results. The simulated court scenario is particularly useful and many delegates have said it has been the best learning experience they have ever had. Two barristers are engaged to examine and cross examine delegates as witnesses in a court room environment, which prepares officers for the challenges they face in their enforcement roles.

Please note the Enforcement Academy combines all the legal day training sessions into one full course.

This 5 day course incorporates theory based learning in the class room and includes on-going assessment including participation in role play activities to build confidence and experience in the role.

This course is suitable for existing or aspiring (local authority) Enforcement Officers and practitioners responsible for enviro-crime and waste management enforcement.

Course duration

The face to face National Enforcement Academy is a five day course with potential for flexible delivery. For example, it can be delivered across five working days over four to five weeks or five consecutive days, with a further four weeks for online test completion.

The course can also be delivered virtually over 8 sessions,.

Delegates will be asked to complete a pre-course questionnaire prior to the training, so we understand what previous experience they have and also need to complete an end-test before being awarded with the certificate.

What next?

On completion of the five day course, you will be required to complete an online test before being awarded your certificate.

Enforcement Academy Continued Competence After two years, we recommend that officers update their knowledge with this refresher course to ensure that they are still operating at a suitable level and are up-to-date with any changes to legislation.
