Tidy Britain APPG
We still strive for a litter free Britain. Our work with MPs that are part of the Tidy Britain APPG is a vital piece of our mission.
The Tidy Britain All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG), for which Keep Britain Tidy provides the secretariat, brings together parliamentarians, industry experts and key stakeholders to discuss solutions to resource and waste issues including litter, plastic pollution and fly-tipping.
The APPG was established in 2016 and provides a unique platform for members to discuss and develop solutions to these urgent issues, protecting our environment through policy drivers and legislative change. The Tidy Britain APPG reformed in November 2024 following the general election, and is chaired by Deirdre Costigan, MP for Ealing Southall.

Previous Meetings
Every School an Eco-School: At the Tidy Britain APPG meeting on 24 November 2021, we discussed how we can embed climate change in education and harness the size of the schools network to achieve carbon reductions at scale. The expert panel included representatives from Keep Britain Tidy, the Foundation for Environmental Education, the National Association of Head Teachers and Shadow Education Minister Peter Kyle MP. The panel highlighted Eco-Schools as a proven framework to achieve a range of goals including reducing carbon emissions at scale, reducing eco-anxiety, educating young people about climate change and preparing them for jobs and lifestyles that will provide solutions to the problem. On the question of whether the national curriculum needs to change to include climate change, the consensus amongst panellists was that it does not need to change as Eco-Schools is a proven framework that sits within the existing curriculum, as evidenced in Scotland and Wales. A highlights video is available to watch here.
World leading Deposit Return Scheme (DRS): At the Tidy Britain APPG meeting on 26th May 2021, we brought together soft drink manufacturers, retailers and expert environmental consultants to break down what a world leading Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) could and should look like in the UK. . Our panellists included Jim Fox, Head of Public Affairs at Coca Cola Partners GB, Samantha Harding, Executive Director of Reloop Platform, Ed Woodall, Government Relations Director at Association of Convenience Stores, and Orla Woods, Senior Consultant at Eunomia. The message from the panel was clear that a comprehensive, “all-in” DRS for drinks containers of all materials and sizes could be ground-breaking. You can watch a 5 minute highlights video of the meeting here and read more about why a Deposit Return Scheme is vital here.
