Wayne and Koda deliver important message to Downing Street

At a time when the environment and climate crisis is high on the agenda, we are urging the government to prioritise Eco-Schools to ensure all children have access to the programme that actively engages young people to take action on environmental issues.

Led by our inspirational #LitterHeroes Ambassador Wayne Dixon and his dog Koda, on Wednesday, 6 November 2019, we delivered an important letter with this request to No.10 Downing Street.

We believe all schools in England have the potential to become more sustainable and harness the talents of millions of young people, enabling them to become the green business leaders, policy-makers and sustainable consumers of the future.

Greta Thunberg’s stand on climate change has demonstrated how the actions of one young person can translate into a worldwide movement and we believe the next generation will play a vital role in protecting and improving our environment, both now and in the years to come.

The active role being played by young people in raising awareness of the climate crisis is a clear indication of their desire not only to see action from business and government but to take positive action themselves in support of a better future.

As the national operators for Eco-Schools in England, Keep Britain Tidy believe that education lies at the heart of this journey. With more than 19,500 schools engaged in England alone, Eco-Schools represents the largest sustainable schools programme anywhere in the world.

We have asked to work together with government to frame this mission to develop a sustainable schools network that provides a beacon of leadership for other countries around the world.

A special thank you to Wayne Dixon for initiating this action, to help secure the futures of millions of young people across the country.
