Waste Less, Lunch Free returning to North London in 2019

This summer we’re returning to seven north London boroughs to host North London Waste Authority’s ‘Waste Less, Lunch Free’ events. The events will highlight the sheer scale of the food waste problem in the UK and help give people practical tips on how they can reduce food waste at home and also save themselves some money in the process.

From leftovers to stale bread, an average family in the UK wastes an estimated £810 worth of food that could otherwise have been eaten each year. For the average person, the value of food wasted is estimated to be £230 each year[1].

At last year’s events we shared over 6,000 portions of food – made from ingredients that would’ve otherwise gone to waste - with more than 2,500 people. Once again, people will have the chance to snack on delicious tasters – including curries, pancakes, pasta and flat breads – at this year’s events, with live cookery demonstrations by local chefs. All ingredients used at the events will be sourced from suppliers who provide food items coming to the end of their useful life.

The team of chefs who will be cooking at the Waste Less, Lunch Free events have got their inspiration from the North London Food Lovers Cookbook, which is available to download for FREE and helps everyone make the most of their leftovers.
