RiverCare volunteers' immense contribution in numbers

Impressive figures have shown how volunteers with our RiverCare and BeachCare programmes gave an amazing 2,768 hours of their time to help Keep Britain Tidy - in just one year.

Despite the effect of the pandemic, volunteer groups submitted encouraging data to our Collect&Count Google form throughout 2021.

Almost 300 river cleans were carried out - that's almost one a day!

The results also show more than 8,000 plastic bottles were saved from making their way into our waterways and causing serious ecological harm.

And an incredible 11,522 cans will now be recycled.

The figures came as a worrying government report into the health of rivers concluded every single river in England is polluted, reinforcing just how important each river clean is to the environment.
