Network Conference And Awards

The Keep Britain Tidy Network Conference and Awards celebrate and recognise excellence in the field of environmental sustainability and waste prevention.

This annual event brings together decision-makers, businesses, and individuals from across the public and private sectors to share best practice and inspire innovation in the environmental and waste sector.

The 2025 conference and awards took place on Thursday 30 January at the Crowne Plaza, Liverpool City Centre. Event photos are available to Network Members via the dashboard.

The event is a great opportunity to learn from best practice, network with other like-minded environment and waste professionals and stay up-to-date on the latest local environmental issues.

This year, we welcomed keynote speaker Mary Creagh CBE MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at Defra who shared the government’s vision for litter and waste prevention and management, including DRS and EPR, and what this is likely to mean for local authorities. There was also an exclusive first look at our latest research, ‘A Rubbish Reality: Our litter problem and why it matters’, which explores the scale and nature of our litter problem and where we need to focus attention to make the biggest difference. We also launched the latest round of grant funding from the Chewing Gum Task Force enabling local authorities to both clean up and prevent gum littering – with an opportunity to meet several street cleaning solution providers in person.

We hosted workshop sessions on community-based approaches to tackling fly-tipping, how to manage litter picking volunteers from a local authority perspective, and legal perspectives on business waste management to enhance street scene.

In the evening, we presented trophies to the winners of our eight awards. Find the list of winners below.

Four good reasons to attend the Keep Britain Tidy Network Conference and Awards:

  1. Networking and collaboration – connect with other local authorities and environmental sector professionals to learn from others’ experiences, share best practices and build partnerships for future initiatives.

  1. Professional development – attend presentations and workshops on the latest trends and innovations in environmental sustainability, gaining new knowledge, skills and insights into effective waste prevention strategies.

  1. Awards and recognition – showcase your local authority’s achievements in environmental sustainability, recognising your efforts in litter and waste prevention to motivate and inspire your staff and residents.

  1. Stay informed – keep up-to-date on the latest environmental policies and standards and get access to resources, support and expertise from Keep Britain Tidy and the Network.

“I attended the Keep Britain Tidy conference in York – it was fantastic! Really informative, useful and a great opportunity to network with industry peers.”

Georgina Bouette, Crawley Borough Council

By becoming a Network member and participating in the conference and awards, local authorities are demonstrating their commitment to environmental sustainability, improving best practice and contributing to a cleaner and healthier future.
