Why do we Love Parks?
Parks are so much more than just patches of grass—they're essential for our well-being and the health of our environment.
- For your personal health: Parks are a sanctuary for both your physical and mental health. Spending time in them offers opportunities for exercise, social connection and stress reduction through a simple dose of nature.
- For our communities: Parks are the heart of our communities, fostering social cohesion and giving everyone a place to come together. They also stimulate local businesses and economies by hosting a wide range of recreational and cultural activities.
- For the planet: Parks are powerful tools in the fight against climate change. They help to sequester carbon, reduce the ‘urban heat island effect’ by providing natural shade, lower flood risks by absorbing rainwater and support biodiversity by creating essential habitats and wildlife corridors.
What happens during Love Parks Week?
During this special week, hundreds of park managers and 'friends of' volunteer groups across England throw open their gates to their communities, hosting a diverse range of inclusive events.
From high-energy sports activities like Parkrun to calming mindfulness sessions such as Yoga and Pilates, there is something for everyone. You might also find arts and crafts workshops or live music events, all with the shared purpose of celebrating our magical green spaces.
