Love Parks Week campaign

Love Parks Week is our annual campaign dedicated to celebrating the vital role of parks and green spaces. It's an opportunity to highlight the tireless work of park managers, local authorities, landowners and 'friends of' volunteer groups, and to showcase the immense value these spaces bring to communities and the planet.

The unrivalled value of parks

Parks are more than just recreational areas; they are essential infrastructure for public health, community cohesion, and environmental resilience.

  • Community and economic vitality: Parks serve as the heart of our communities, fostering social connections and providing venues for a wide array of activities that can boost local economies.
  • Public health: Green spaces are powerful tools for improving public well-being. They provide opportunities for physical activity and offer a crucial escape for mental restoration.
  • Environmental resilience: Parks are a frontline defence against climate change. They sequester carbon, mitigate the "urban heat island effect" with natural shade, reduce flood risks by absorbing rainwater, and support biodiversity by creating vital habitats.

Did you know?

  • Health savings: Parks and green spaces are estimated to save the NHS over £100 million annually by reducing GP visits and prescriptions.
  • Physical activity: People with easy access to a park are 20% less at risk of physical inactivity.
  • Total value: The annual 'welfare value' of parks to the health and wellbeing of adults in England and Wales is estimated at a staggering £25.6 billion.

What's in it for you?

  • Ready-to-use resources: When you register, you'll receive a comprehensive campaign pack filled with posters, social media templates, and other assets to help you promote the week locally and connect with your community.
  • Community amplification: By using the official #LoveParks hashtag, you can amplify your message, increase your event's visibility, and join a nationwide conversation celebrating green spaces.
  • Green Flag Award: If you have a Green Flag Award-winning park, Love Parks Week is the perfect opportunity to celebrate with a public flag raising event!
