Our work
Our planet is drowning in plastic and waste, global warming is having a devastating impact on communities worldwide and, since the 1970’s, the UK has lost almost half of its biodiversity, ranking at the bottom of the G7.
Closer to home, every community in the country is faced with an environment in crisis, strewn with litter and blighted by fly-tipping, where nature is suffering because of both our actions and our inaction. This means that, at Keep Britain Tidy, we are more focused than ever on our mission to tackle local environmental damage from the ground up because we believe everyone has the right to love where they live.
But there is hope. Thousands of people are volunteering across the country, cleaning up the litter that others are mindlessly throwing away. They are doing beach cleans, volunteering to improve our parks and green spaces and supporting biodiversity by tackling invasive species and creating nature-friendly spaces where wildlife can thrive. We call those people Litter Heroes and each and everyone of them is making a difference, every day, all across the country.
The changes we need are straightforward but significant and everyone can play their part - millions of small actions, when taken together, can make a big difference.
You may not realise it, but you can see evidence of our work in every corner of the country - whether that's parks that are flying Green Flag Awards, beaches with Blue Flags or Seaside Awards, schools that are Eco-Schools or councils that are working with us to educate residents and change behaviour.
Keep Britain Tidy Litter HeroI like being part of Keep Britain Tidy's team effort to love where we live and I like to inspire others to do the same.
Keep Britain Tidy runs campaigns and programmes that you can get involved with, whether you want to tackle litter, reduce your impact on the planet or give nature a helping hand.
We have an army of passionate and dedicated volunteers, some who like to litter-pick alone, some who go out regularly with a group and some that run groups for like-minded people, who want to make a difference, in their area.
Everyone can get involved because, after all, the environment belongs to everyone of us.
