Buy Nothing New Month

Every new item we buy comes with an environmental price tag. Could you buy nothing new for just one month?

Save your pennies and protect the planet

From the water and energy used in production, to the fuel used in delivery, every new item we buy comes with an environmental price tag.

That why this January, Keep Britain Tidy are inviting you to make a New Year’s resolution that will truly stick by taking part in Buy Nothing New Month (1-31 January, 2026). The challenge is simple. For the month of January, make a commitment to buy nothing new, other than essentials like food and medicines.

The campaign is part of a growing, global movement to reduce consumption and create a circular economy, sitting alongside Buy Nothing Day - celebrated internationally in November - and Australia’s Buy Nothing New campaign.

What's in it for you?

Save your pennies – Resisting the urge to buy stuff new, means keeping more money in the bank

Protect the planet – Every new thing made and shipped creates a pile of emissions. By hitting pause on new purchases, you're cutting your carbon footprint and saving precious natural resources

Get weekly emails Sign up and we'll send you weekly tips, ideas, and a healthy dose of encouragement to keep you going all month long.
