Great British Spring Clean
The Great British Spring Clean is the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign.
Since 2016 our army of millions of amazing Litter Heroes have pledged to pick more 4.5 million bags of litter.
It is a great opportunity for organisations like yours to support local Litter Heroes in clearing rubbish from local streets, green spaces and beaches.
At the start of the Great British Spring Clean, we write to every local authority to ask them how they will support local Litter Heroes during the campaign.
We ask whether people can borrow equipment, where to leave collected litter and whether there is a nominated person at the local authority to help out with advice or bags.
All of our Network members, whether Essential, Expert or Exemplar, are given an exclusive sneak peek at the campaign in a special online session.
They can also apply for the Great British Spring Clean award at our annual Network Conference and Awards ceremony, as well as be nominated for the Great British Spring Clean Outstanding Organiser Award, with the winner announced at our Parliamentary launch

Research from Keep Britain Tidy shows that people feel less safe, and house prices are affected, when an area looks littered and uncared for. By taking care of our neighbourhoods, we increase feelings of pride and safety.
Litter is a wasted resource. Each day, around 20 million* drinks containers are ‘lost from the loop’ (this means, they don’t get recycled). Plastic bottles, aluminium cans and glass bottles are all recyclable and can be turned into new drinks vessels.
But if they are littered, the valuable materials they are made of are wasted. It takes less energy to recycle than make new, so capturing these materials is critical.
Each year, as a country, local authorities and other organisations spend hundreds of millions of pounds clearing up litter. This is money that could be better spent on other public services, like social care and education.
There are also social costs.
Our landmark report A Rubbish Reality: Our litter problem and why it matters exposes the alarming scale of England’s litter crisis and its disproportionate impact on the nation’s most deprived communities.
Once discarded, litter remains in our environment for decades, making its way from land into our waterways and oceans - plastic bottles can last around 450 years.
Allison Ogden-Newton OBE, Chief Executive of Keep Britain Tidy“We know there’s a problem - but we also know that people-power is part of the solution.
“Each year the Great British Spring Clean’s fantastic and dedicated Litter Heroes take positive action to tackle litter and show they love where they live.
“This growing culture of small individual actions has added up to an enormous impact.”
Next year's campaign, which also includes the Great Big School Clean, will take place from 13 to 29 March.
Local authorities who make a pledge can order up to 2,000 branded campaign bin bags on a first come first served basis.
