Fly-tipping
Fly-tipping isn't just unsightly; it is incredibly harmful to our environment, wildlife, and communities. We can help you tackle this prolific issue with our proven campaigns, behavioural interventions and expert training solutions.
We know that for many local authorities, fly-tipping is now the number one environmental crime they are tackling.
Fly-tipping is reaching epidemic proportions. But while it’s a complex problem, a number of actions, taken together, can substantially reduce the 50 or more daily incidents many authorities are dealing with.
We can work with your local authority to talk you through our innovative interventions that will help to tackle fly-tipping, as well as bespoke training packages to keep your staff equipped and up to date with the latest legislation and measures.
Keep Britain Tidy has a track record of delivering measurable and sustainable impact when it comes to changing behaviour and has worked with local authorities around the country, helping them tackle the issues they face.
Our work is driven by research and evidence – we want to do what works not simply what grabs headlines for a day or costs so much to implement that it cannot be adopted by others as an effective solution.

Our latest publication Beyond The Tipping Point is the culmination of 5 years worth of research into fly-tipping by Keep Britain Tidy and examines eight behavioural drivers behind householder fly-tipping.
Working together with Newham Council we developed the Better Streets Programme to tackle the fly-tipping that was blighting their borough and costing them, like local authorities across the country, millions of pounds a year to deal with. The programme reduced fly-tipping by up to 72%.
For the Better Streets programme, our award-winning Centre for Social Innovation reviewed our existing research into fly-tipping, including research with fly-tippers, and worked with residents to co-design solutions that, crucially, would resonate with them and which they believed would make a difference.
After this co-creation, five separate interventions were trialed in Newham: Crime Scene Investigation Tape; Social Impact Stencils; No Waste on Streets; Empowering Schools and Love Your Ward Weekend.
Our campaign has been designed to help local authority partners educate their residents about their responsibilities to dispose of their own waste and help them avoid a fine or worse.
Our Local Authority Network, working with our innovation team, will extend the application of existing good practice, develop new approaches and encourage a more consistent approach to enforcement across local authorities.
Training is an essential component of organisational growth and success in the market place. It provides opportunities for your employees to broaden their knowledge, capabilities and skills, resulting in more efficient working and enhanced confidence.
We deliver training courses and workshops for private and public sector organisations including local authorities, housing providers, business improvement districts (BIDs), community stakeholders and schools.
In respect of fly-tipping these include:
Our courses can be delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams or in the class-room.
Our ‘off the shelf’ courses are designed to perfectly meet the most frequently requested training needs of our clients. However, we are often approached to take a bespoke perspective on training options to provide an innovative solution to more specific needs. Whether you are looking to train larger audiences, combine several topics into a ‘blended’ training programme, or develop an entirely new programme of training for your staff as part of a new project or initiative, Keep Britain Tidy can offer you bespoke training options tailored to meet your needs.
