These social gatherings have become a cherished part of the experience for Phil and many in his community.
He says: “Beyond the physical act of picking up litter, these events have fostered a strong sense of community and camaraderie.
“It’s been a joy to build relationships with the Goosecroft Centre and the participants, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a worthwhile cause.”
Another big change for Phil came in 2020. During the lockdown in 2020, he decided to grow out his hair, and used it as an opportunity to raise money for charity, earning himself the nickname ‘Litter Afro’ in the process.
“I ended up raising nearly £2,000 for the Herriot (Hospice) charity after everything got cancelled. It was amazing to see how people rallied behind my crazy hair and good cause.”
“Phil is a fantastic Litter Heroes Ambassador, whose hard work, creativity and commitment to both the environment and his local community is inspiring.” said Patsy Mulcahy Litter Heroes Project Coordinator.
