Councils make shortlist for Keep Britain Tidy’s 2022 Awards

Despite the ongoing challenges for local authorities caused by the pandemic, Keep Britain Tidy was inundated with entries for its annual awards, which recognises councils’ efforts to make environmental improvements for residents.

There are ten categories, of which six are exclusively open to councils that are members of the charity’s Network.

The awards celebrate local authorities that are committed to making significant improvements to the environment on residents’ doorsteps, highlighting the teamwork, achievements and improvements happening on the ground every day.

Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton, said: “I would like to congratulate each authority on being shortlisted for one of our annual awards.

“We know that people want to live in places that are clean and tidy and local authorities have a massive role to play in this and should rightly be recognised for their efforts.

“We are thrilled that so many authorities entered our awards and, again, the standard was incredibly high. We look forward to seeing the finalists at our awards ceremony in Birmingham in February and wish the entrants the best of luck.”

Six awards are exclusively open to Network members - with more than 100 local authorities already part of the Network.

They include:

  • Community Engagement
  • Excellence in Enforcement
  • Litter Initiative of the Year
  • Outstanding Service Delivery
  • Team or Crew of the Year
  • Waste Performance of the Year

Four others are open to all local authorities:

  • #LitterHeroes
  • Great British Spring Clean
  • Love Parks
  • #Young LitterHeroes

The Keep Britain Tidy Awards will be presented at the charity’s annual Network Conference at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole hotel on Thursday, February 10th, 2022. The conference attracts more than 120 decision-makers, including local authorities, housing associations and other major landowners, from across England.
