#CleanSheffield

#CleanSheffield - taking pride in your city and doing your bit to help.

The #CleanSheffield campaign started in 2016 as a pilot partnership between us and Sheffield City Council. The aim was simple - to encourage the people of Sheffield to take pride in their great city. And to do their bit to help - by not dropping litter and by binning any litter they see on the ground. It provided residents and businesses with the information, knowledge and tools to enable them to play their part in keeping local communities clean.

Sheffield's businesses and community groups signed up to the #CleanSheffield pledge in their droves. The pledges were simple - keeping their local patches clean (either the area around their shop, or organising a group litter pick) and helping to spread the word about the project by displaying their pledge.

Many took it further - organising litter picks across the city, working together, encouraging others to sign the pledge and sharing the project far and wide via social media. Together we made a real difference. The groups, individuals and businesses of Sheffield are still upholding the #CleanSheffield pledge and helping to keep their city clean.

Although we are no longer involved in delivering the campaign you can still download and use the resources in the side panel to help your city.

Sheffield is claimed to be the cleanest city in Europe, and Sheffield City Council are doing a great deal to keep it this way, despite shrinking budgets. Each year they spend over £4 million clearing litter - employing over 200 street-cleaning staff and collecting 3,600 tonnes of litter a year.

As council budgets are squeezed the people of Sheffield are getting more involved in keeping their city green and clean. With 78 volunteer groups involved across the city, helping to keep the streets, parks and gren spaces tidy, together they are making a real difference.
