Our McDonald’s partnership into its seventh year 14 February 2017
2017 marks the seventh year of Keep Britain Tidy’s partnership with McDonald’s to help combat litter across the UK. Starting out as a sponsor of our Love Where You Live campaign in 2010, McDonald’s have supported our annual campaigns every year since and are a proud sponsor of this year’s Great British Spring Clean.

Over the course of the partnership, McDonald’s restaurants across the UK have organised 2,300 events, with nearly 70,000 volunteers participating. In 2016 alone, 390 local events took place, involving over 11,000 volunteers. McDonald's restaurant teams go above and beyond for their community, and in addition to litter picking, partner with local groups and charities to get involved in community events. This can range from painting walls or halls to planting and maintaining community gardens.

Alongside these events, McDonald’s and its franchisees are committed to working to tackle the daily occurrence of litter. For the past 35 years, all restaurants run daily ‘Litter Patrols’, which see their restaurant teams carrying out a minimum of three litter picks every day in order to keep the local area clear from all litter, not just McDonald’s branded litter. They estimate that, together, their UK restaurant teams cover 3,000 miles each week and 150,000 miles every year.

It remains a priority for McDonald’s to keep the communities around their restaurants free from litter and ensure that they remain an enjoyable place to live, work and visit. We are delighted to have them on board once more for the coming year.
