Hillary Bauer OBE

Board Member

A former senior civil servant, Hillary has served as Chief Executive of the Broadcasting Complaints Commission and is currently the Deputy Chair of the Ben Uri Gallery and Museum.

She is also a Patron and Vice Chair of the City of London’s Lord Mayor’s Cultural Scholarships. During her civil service career, Hillary was Head of the International and Cultural Property Unit in the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. She was awarded an OBE in 2010 for services to cultural property.

In Hillary's own words, “I’m delighted to have become a board member of Keep Britain Tidy. The twin causes of using less and throwing away less have always been close to my heart and I am also a regular local scourge in reporting fly-tipping and other mess on my nearby streets. Coming from the world of art and culture, I feel we could issue a challenge, especially to young people entering those worlds, to find innovative and perhaps startling ways to bring home these crucial issues to the public at large. Could they use new media to launch wider discussions and promote greater awareness of what we are all doing to our planet, unless we change our oh-so-wasteful behaviour?”
