About this park/green space
Worden Park is a Grade II listed country park lying on the southern edge of Leyland in the Borough of South Ribble and is enjoyed by over 300,000 visitors every year. The park is particularly popular with families and has a range of attractions set with the 63 hectare former country estate.
The Arts and Crafts Centre, located within the centre of the park surrounded by the Victorian gardens, is a popular venue consisting of a theatre, coffee shop and a range of art and craft workshops all housed in the remaining buildings of Worden Hall. In addition, a model railway operated by the Leyland Society of Model Engineers offers train rides free of charge to visitors through the park's woodlands and meadows along the new 1 km long track.
The park also has a large adventure playground, a lawn tennis court and 11 football pitches within its grounds. For those seeking a more relaxing visit, the park offers formal gardens laid out by notable landscape architect W. A. Nesfield where visitors can sit amongst the colourful bedding displays or enjoy walks through mature woodlands and wildflower meadows which link into the open countryside to the south.
The park also boasts a 150 year old hedge maze which, following a recent restoration project, has been re-opened to the public and is again giving visitors the chance to test their sense of direction free of charge.
