Great British Spring Clean 2020 - Postponement FAQs

Following the recent advise from the government about ceasing non essential travel and contact, we have taken the decision to postpone the Great British Spring Clean campaign until 11th-27th September 2020.

I'm an event host and have planned events. What should I do?

We are asking that all of our campaign supporters maintain their current commitment to the campaign, and instead of cancelling events look to reschedule for the new campaign period.

  • Please where possible reschedule your existing clean-up events to fall within the new campaign period 11th – 27th September
  • If your clean-ups are registered on our event map, you can amend the dates by logging into your dashboard;
    • Under ‘Manage my clean-ups’ select ‘My cleans-ups’ where you will find all of the clean-ups you have registered
    • You can then select ‘update my clean-up’
    • Change the date and details of the clean-up on the form shown, scroll down and press 'save', or press 'delete' to cancel your clean-up and follow the prompts
    • We recommend rescheduling your clean-up rather than cancelling so that all the volunteers who’ve signed up already can still take part in the rearranged clean-up
    • Remember to contact all of the volunteers already signed up to your clean-up to inform them of the new date
    • If your event is public, check your inbox for emails from us for notification of anybody who has tried to join your clean-up. If your event is private you will need to contact your volunteers through your usual channels.

I've said I will joined a planned event. What should I do?

  • Please assume that any events that you have signed-up for as part of the campaign are now cancelled or postponed
  • Within time you should hear directly from your event hosts about any new dates being set for existing clean-ups for which you have registered
  • Please return to the event map in summer to see what new events and dates have been scheduled in your area in line with the new campaign dates.

I've pledged my support to the campaign. Do I need to do anything?

  • No, you don’t need to do anything!
  • We will work on the basis that if you have pledged to support the campaign with an individual action, you will honour this commitment by acting on your pledge
  • Please make sure that when you undertake your pledge you follow the latest Government advice on Covid-19 and also follow our advice on clean-up hygiene here.

Our school has signed up to support. Do we need to do anything?

  • We are hoping that all schools that have already signed up to support the campaign will extend their support to the new September dates. Please contact us at enquiries@keepbritaintidy.org if this is not the case for your school and we will remove your activity from our total volunteer numbers
  • You do not need to update us on your new clean-up dates directly, we just ask that you reschedule your planned activity for the Autumn term
  • If you have not already registered your activity with us, you can still register your support here
  • If you have already registered with us, or do so before the end of the rescheduled campaign, you will be entered into our competition to WIN £1,000 of Wilko vouchers (T&C's apply)
  • We will be signposting the 11th September as the new Great British School Clean date, however you do not have to hold your planned activity on this date.

Our Town or Parish Council has signed up to support. Do we need to do anything?

  • We are hoping that all Town and Parish Councils whom have already signed up to support the campaign will extend their support to the September campaign, please contact us at enquiries@keepbritaintidy.org if this is not the case for your council and we will remove your activity from our total volunteer numbers
  • You do not need to update us on your new clean-up dates directly, we just ask that you reschedule your planned activity for the Autumn
  • If you have not already registered your activity with us, you can still register your support here
  • If your Town or Parish Council has plotted any clean-ups on our event maps please cancel or reschedule these events to fall within the new campaign period as instructed on the first FAQ.

We are a local authority, should we continue to support volunteers?

  • It is your decision as a local authority if you wish to keep supporting volunteering with loaning of equiptment and litter collection over the coming months, obviously subject to guidance from the Government on the wider situation. Volunteers may contact you directly to ask about litter collections and equipment so please prepare your stance
  • We are hoping that all local authorities who have already signed up to support the campaign will extend their support to the September campaign. Please contact us at enquiries@keepbritaintidy.org if this is not the case for your local authority
  • If you have already registered with us, or do so before the end of the rescheduled campaign, you will be entered into our competition to WIN a Womble for one of your clean-ups (T&C's apply)
  • If your local authority has plotted any clean-ups on our event maps please cancel or reschedule these events to fall within the new campaign period. Please follow the instructions in the first FAQ
  • In summer we will be contacting you again to ask if there are any updates to the information you have provided for equipment and bag collection

We'd like to continue litter-picking anyway during the next few months. Can we?

  • In light of recent Government advise, our stance is that in order to keep everyone safe, all group litter-picks should stop until the end of April, when this will be reviewed
  • Individuals can, of course, do litter-picks when they go out for a walk – wearing gloves as always – but we cannot advocate group events. With this in mind, we will not be accepting risk assessments for group events from now until the end of April when we will review the situationand therefore any events will not be covered by our public liability insurance (public liability insurance is only available to registered Keep Britain Tidy #LitterHeroes Ambassadors)
  • If you wish to continue individual litter-picking activity over the next few months then please do so but ensure you follow the latest Government advice on Covid-19 to ensure you protect your own safety
  • You can also find our advise on clean-up hygene here.

Thank you again for your continued support for the campaign from all at Keep Britain Tidy.
