Eco-Schools and the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency scheme

We have developed a work package for local authorities as a bespoke solution to engaging schools in carbon reduction activity.  There is a clear and growing need for local authorities in England to engage with their schools as a key part of both their efficiency and Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC) obligations.

The Ends report of May 2009 on CRC stated that for most local authorities, engaging with schools would be a critical element of their work.  Indeed up to 60% of authorities’ carbon comes from their school buildings.  As an example, Plymouth City Council recently identified that 50% of their current carbon emissions come from their school buildings.

We are supporting council work on reducing carbon emissions throughout England, through delivery of direct support to both schools and local authorities as part of the Eco-Schools programme.
