  • Anglian Water - Captain Splosh

    Their website for primary teachers and pupils includes Captain Splosh to help children understand more about water. Anglian Water also provides purpose built education centres and a mobile education centre which covers the Anglian region.

  • Climate Futures

    The Comino Foundation has funded a portfolio of materials to support teachers in their teaching of environment and climate change issues. The Foundation recognise that many teachers have received no training in these issues. The core portfolio called 'Climate Futures' is now on the Internet. Whilst this site is subscribed to by 25,000 teachers, the Foundation through CSE, has agreed that the Climate Futures materials can be accessed and downloaded without charge.  

  • WaterWise

    A UK based NGO (non-governmental organisation) with an aim to decrease water consumption. The website offers lots of water saving advice including information on water efficient white goods.

  • Water Guide

    This website is designed in an easy to read format and gives advice and tips on water based issues, as well as information on all of the major water companies.

    This is a website designed by HTI (a charity linking business and education) and SevernTrent Water, offering tools to help you carry out an environmental assessment of your school.

  • Southern Water

    Southern Water will provide small financial grants for schools within the Southern Water region (Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight) to develop environmental initiatives within the school. The type of project that will be supported include gardens (preferably water efficient), wildlife gardens, ponds, environment clubs.

  • Keep Britain Tidy

    Keep Britain Tidy, is an environmental charity which runs a number of programmes such as Eco-Schools, The Big Tidy Up, Love Where You Live, the Blue Flag Award, the Quality Coast Award and the Green Flag Awards.

  • Love Where You Live (Keep Britain Tidy)

    Love Where You Live is a new Keep Britain Tidy campaign that aims to inspire, encourage and enable us to make where we live, work and play the kind of place we really want it to be. In conjunction with Eco-Schools, Love Where You Live has developed a special series of educational resources. These include a range of free lesson ideas, assembly ideas, and challenges that link with the national curriculum and Eco-Schools Awards in creative ways.

    With litter being a major issue for many schools across the country, registering your school for the Big Tidy Up is an ideal way to teach young people about the problem of litter in their local environment. The Big Tidy Up also offers lesson plans to incorporate a community tidy up into the curriculum.

  • Freegle

    Don't throw it away - give it away! Freegle is an email list hosted on Yahoo! Groups that allows you to give stuff away when you need to get rid of it but don’t want to throw it in the bin. Or save something from landfill by asking for it; perhaps someone has just what you need that they were about to throw away.

  • Veolia Water

    Veolia Water offer free and discounted water efficiency devices such as hippos, save-a-flush, tap inserts and shower flow regulators. These can be ordered via the Veolia Water website where lots of water efficiency tips and hints can be found on the Water Efficient House pages A more detailed action plan focusing on waste. An ideal follow up from the waste audit. Schools can count this towards waste as their major project.

  • United Shoe Recycling Company

    United Shoe Recycling Company offer schools a free shoe recycling service, and will pay schools £5 for every full bag of wearable shoes donated. United Shoe Recycling provide schools with free recycling bins, and will collect your schoes for free .

    Travel Footprint enables you to compare the lifecycle environmental impacts of the main methods of passenger travel in the UK. Use their Journey Emissions Calculator to calculate emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and particulates generated by a specified journey.

    Eco-Schools England have teamed up with Homebase and developed some fantastic resources to help your school grow its own fruit and vegetables. Together we have created a wide range of downloadable leaflets, which are informative but simple guides so that even novices can use them and grow with confidence.

  • Salad Days

    British Leafy Salads Association has worked with the British Nutrition Foundation to develop resources to reinforce children's learning, focusing on different areas of the curriculum using the novel theme of salad leaves. The resources complement the salad growing kits which schools can register to receive free of charge.

  • Grow Your Own Potatoes

    Grow Your Own Potatoes (GYOP) linked to the curriculum for Primary Schools, is a Potato Council initiative that challenges Primary Schools to grow their heaviest yield of potatoes.   • Hedgerow Harvest

    In the past hedges were used as larders of healthy seasonal food. The Hedgerow Harvest project seeks to reconnect people to this heritage of free local healthy food. Hedgerows are fruit-full not only in food but inspiring us to understand our sense of place within the world, providing a range of real learning opportunities.   • Wild About Plant's Bee Scene

    Bee Scene supports teachers to facilitate learning outside the classroom, enabling children to explore the varied nature on their doorstep. Last year hundreds of school students surveyed their local patch for bumble-bee friendly plants.     The Woodland Trust is the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity. One of its key aims is to see more and more people enjoying trees and woods as part of their everyday lives.   • The Great Plant Hunt

    The Great Plant Hunt is an ideal resource to help children aged 5-11 learn about plant-based science. All the teaching resources are available on the website. Activities are clearly mapped to the national curriculum and tailored to each year group with opportunities for different age groups to work together. Broad themes include: the variation of plant life and different habitats (biodiversity); plants as living organisms; the importance of plants in everyday life.

    Grow Your Own Potatoes (GYOP) linked to the curriculum for Primary Schools, is a Potato Council initiative that challenges Primary Schools to grow their heaviest yield of potatoes.   • Climate Futures

    The Comino Foundation has funded a portfolio of materials to support teachers in their teaching of environment and climate change issues. The Foundation recognise that many teachers have received no training in these issues. The core portfolio called 'Climate Futures' is now on the Internet. Whilst this site is subscribed to by 25,000 teachers, the Foundation through CSE, has agreed that the Climate Futures materials can be accessed and downloaded without charge.
