Support the Eco-Schools programme

Eco-Schools England is the fastest growing sustainable schools programme in the World. As a result Keep Britain Tidy receive enquiries from a wide range of companies, organisations, local authorities, NGO’s, groups and individuals who would like to help schools progress towards a more sustainable future.

As a result we have created a number of options, listed here for how you might get involved.

Corporate supporters / partnerships

The Eco-School programme offers excellent opportunities for successful partnerships with both public and private sectors.

Sponsorship and education - a new era. Richard Fox, Managing Director of uksponsorship.com, which operates The UK Sponsorship Database quotes: 'Sponsorship in education is flourishing and extending its influence and visibility.'

Whether you want to reinforce your brand profile or build employee motivation the Eco-School programme is ideally placed to help you make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of young people. The programme now reaches over 5.25million pupils annually and through them is enabling schools, families and the wider community to bring about positive change throughout England.

Supporting Eco-Schools, in a practical way, demonstrates that your organisation cares about young people, their education and the environment.

Experience and illustrations from Market Research findings of working with corporate sponsors on the Eco-Schools programme will result in the generation of 'the feel-good factor', with everyone from employees to customers.

Examples of opportunities available include:

Corporate delivery partner

Using corporate sponsorship your company can promote a positive image to people that matter to you. Eco-Schools can offer many different opportunities for sponsorship. We have a wide range of support options and would be happy to help shape your own vision for engagement.

Cause-related marketing

Choosing Eco-Schools as your charity partner is a powerful way to communicate your values to key customers. It allows you the opportunity to demonstrate your company values and differentiate your products from the competition in a practical and visible way. Research by Business in the Community illustrates that 81% of consumers are more likely to purchase a product that is associated with a cause they care about. That is a very powerful driver in attracting new customers and achieving higher sales.

Employee volunteering

Employee volunteering creates an ethos of sharing common goals, which is great for increasing morale and team spirit. By joining an Eco-Committee your staff become engaged and will directly support young people to become positive agents for change. The added bonus is the goodwill factor generated with your customer, suppliers and the local community.

For any general enquiries on corporate partnerships please email
eco-schools@keepbritaintidy.org or telephone Andrew Suter, Education Projects Manager on 01942 612664.

Fundraising

Due to popular demand Eco-Schools have set up a fundraising page with
Just Giving.com. Anyone can now hold a sponsored event with proceeds going to Eco-Schools. Even better is that by registering your event at www.justgiving.com/ecoschools we can claim gift aid for all money raised.

  • As a school your event could be themed around the programme e.g. a sponsored walk to school week or healthy eating week. This could even count towards your Bronze, Silver or Green Flag award.
  • If you aren’t from a school why not have a go at something a bit adventurous? e.g. White water rafting or even parachuting. We have set these activities up with our events partners Skyline who will help arrange everything for you. Email
eco-schools@keepbritaintidy.org to request a fundraising pack.

Local Authorities

A crucial element for any school entering the programme is local help and advice. Many local authorities recognise this and have adopted Eco-Schools as a performance indicator in one or more of their policy documents as a way of embedding this support in their activity for example, Bolton MBC. Authorities which have done this cite the programme as having a very positive effect on many of their own priorities e.g. waste minimisation and recycling targets, litter and even a reduction in anti-social behaviour. The Eco-Schools team are always keen to support authorities and can help develop policy documents and delivery strategies as well as helping authorities promote the programme to schools. Email us at eco-schools@keepbritaintidy.org for more details.

Third Sector Partnerships

Eco-Schools works with a number of national and regional charities whose activities compliment or add value to the Eco-Schools programme. By working together we can enhance and improve our offering. We currently have partnership agreements with Natural England, the British Council, CREATE, RSPB and the BBC. We are keen to work with other national organisations which support sustainability and address climate change.

We are currently piloting a local delivery partner model for Eco-Schools. The aim of this is to identify a small charity who can offer one to one support to Eco-Schools at a local level. Work with Community Energy Plus in Cornwall is progressing well and we will be looking to expand the pilot shortly.

If you would like to discuss developing a similar relationship then email us at
