In addition to rewarding the very best beaches, schools and parks across the country, did you know that we are now accrediting the very best, most sustainable hotels?
The Green Key award - managed in England by Keep Britain Tidy - is the leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry. Running in 55 countries, 2,500 establishments now hold the award, including our first two Green Key-awarded hotels in England - Sheraton Skyline and Le Meridien Piccadilly.
This prestigious ecolabel represents a commitment by businesses that their premises adhere to the strict criteria set by the Foundation for Environmental Education. A Green Key stands for the promise to its guests that by opting to stay with the Green Key establishment, they are helping to make a difference on an environmental level.
During the rigorous judging, each hotel is assessed against criteria including staff involvement, guest information and sustainable management of energy, waste, water, cleaning and food and drinks. Through making greener choices each establishment is able to significantly reduce their environmental impact, reducing the consumption of energy and water and improve their guests’ experience.
Keep Britain Tidy’s Chief Executive, Allison Ogden-Newton, said, “We are delighted to be presenting our first Green Key awards to two such deserving recipients. When you choose to stay in a Green Key accredited hotel, you know that you are reducing your environmental footprint by staying in an establishment that makes more sustainable choices.”
Applications are now open for new Green Key establishments. Contact Lynsey Atherton for more information or express your interest, this round of applications close 30th September 2017.
