Litter fighting pets!

13 October 2009

Everyday we receive lots of great stories about people doing their bit for the fight against litter, but it appears that they have been getting a helping hand!

It’s not just humans who care about the local environment, their pets want to see their homes litter free too.

We first heard about litter fighting pets when Ernie the Big Tidy Up mascot donned his tabard  with his owner Keep Britain Tidy's Natalie Forrester.

Natalie said: “Ernie is a great help when I’m out on a litter pick, not only does he like to pick up the odd bit of litter himself but he keeps me company while I can work on making the local area much nicer for him to walk in!”

“It’s also a great way to make his walks more interesting and productive”

It seems it is not just Ernie who likes to help his owner, many of  our  twitter followers have told us that their pets like to work as well as play.

‘BordomBusters’ from Brentwood sent in the pictures above of Fred and Barney who have collected all sorts of things from bottles to boots whilst getting their exercise.

‘Emma7114’ said: “My labradors collect discarded plastic bottles and I pick up litter on our walks.”

However, it is not just dogs that help destroy litter ‘Violet_Horizon’ gives paper litter she collects to her gerbils who shred it and use it for their bedding!
