Appeal for Tidy Up Champions!

23 July 2009

Keep Britain Tidy is appealing for local authority champions to support the Big Tidy Up campaign.

This is a special opportunity for those local authorities who are keen to engage with their community and encourage uptake of the Big Tidy Up to actively involve their residents in making improvements to the quality of their local environment.

Since the Big Tidy Up campaign was launched in September 2008, thousands of people across the country have taken part to clean up their patch, collecting almost 50,000 bags of rubbish from streets in our communities.

As we look forward to celebrating the Big Tidy Up’s first anniversary in September, Keep Britain Tidy is seeking the support of enthusiastic local authorities to champion the campaign and help get everyone cleaning up their corner of the community in the country’s biggest ever litter pick.

Apply now!
If you would like your local authority to be considered, please complete an application form stating why you wish to become a champion, how you would approach your local campaign and what your authority could bring to the Big Tidy Up campaign.

Please return you completed application form to Rebecca Joinson at rebecca.joinson@keepbritaintidy.org.

The closing date for applications is midnight on Friday 31st July 2009.

I live in the Borough of Havant in Hampshire and would ask why I have been told our Council has not been selected. I have provided them with details of 3 sites, all of which would provide a good days work for the clearing of litter and fly-tipping. jackieforrest2007@yahoo.co.uk

My husband is a local councillor and we are out every day walking our Border Collie Dog, at the same time picking up litter in our local parks. We are hoping that if we get the area looking better people might take more of a pride in where they live. My daughter mentioned this campaign to us so would you please furnish us with more details etc.
