As austerity continues to bite, with budgets still to be cut deeper, how can services be maintained and even improved? The Keep Britain Tidy Network Conference on 13 March 2012 in Birmingham will address this key question and aims to equip delegates with the tools to enable and empower them to make informed decisions to help create a stable and sustainable future.

Keep Britain Tidy Network Development Manager Liz Moss said: “We have listened carefully to the issues that challenge members and partners of the Network, integrating those topics into the conference agenda. The conference programme will cater specifically for delegates’ needs as land managers with a remit for improving local environmental quality.”

Liz continued “Given the current economic climate and the challenges we all face, this year’s conference is a crucial one and we are looking forward to a good turnout from Network members so we can discuss the key issues and map a way forward.”

The conference agenda will look at themes such as new and innovative models of service delivery, localism and decentralising power. Delegates can chose from a range of workshops featuring strategic speakers and good practice examples from organisations with strong frameworks and strategies that enable neighbourhoods to take control of the decisions that affect them, increasing citizen participation and promoting community ownership.

A major part of the conference is the presentation of the annual Network Awards, which not only recognise and promote the hard work and dedication involved in delivering continuous improvement but also provide an invaluable opportunity for information to be shared with colleagues in other organisations.

The Keep Britain Tidy Network is one of the longest running local environmental quality programme and environmental awards schemes in the UK. It assists local authorities and other land managers to improve performance in local environmental quality by providing expertise, advice, support, opportunities for up-skilling, networking events and partnership working.
