Vote Your Park the People's Choice
06 April 2010

Green Flag Awards is urging the public to vote for their favourite local park or green space in the annual Green Flag Award scheme’s ‘People's Choice – Site of the Year Award’.
The Green Flag Award was first launched in 1996 to recognise and reward the best green spaces in the country. It is the national standard for parks in England and Wales, and recognises well managed, high quality areas.
Competiton is fierce, but for a chance to see your local park receive the coveted title of ‘Peoples Choice – Site of the Year’ simply visit www.greenflagaward.org.uk and click on ‘Get Involved’. Under this section you’ll find our current top 10 sites as voted for by the public.
Don’t worry if your park isn’t on this list. To vote for other parks and green spaces visit your region on the map. And importantly don’t forget to tell your friends.
Paul Todd, Green Flag Award manager said: “Spring could not be a better time to vote for your local park or green space, when the days are longer and people are outdoors more frequently. With more than 1000 great outdoor spaces involved in the scheme choosing a favourite for the ‘People’s Choice’ may be difficult.”
A winner from each region will be announced at a national event held in London on the 23rd September 2010.
Any green space can win a Green Flag Award as long as its free for the public to use and meets a list of eight criteria.
For 2010/2011 we have received a record number of applications – an increase of 15% - to the scheme and therefore expect voting for your favourite to be even more difficult next year. Green Flag Award winners will be announced on 28th July.
