About this park/green space
Set high in the South Pennines between the conurbations of Halifax and Bradford, Ogden Water is one of Yorkshires favourite country destinations, providing the visitor with a vital green space for tranquillity, fresh air, walking and numerous other activities.
Ogden Waters 34 acre reservoir is surrounded by a relaxing waterside path, whilst the woodland trails allow the visitor to listen to the sounds of birdsong and the occasional view of passing deer. Ogden is also a well established gate way to the wider rolling moors and fells around Calderdale and Bradford, and is a popular starting point for rambler and cyclist alike.
Recently Ogden Water celebrated 150 years as a functioning reservoir by reinstalling the Victorian style gates to the Promenade, which together with replacement gas lamps and seating has recreated a feel of its heritage and importance to the town of Halifax. Volunteers, Friends and the Wildlife WATCH group are all very active at Ogden, demonstrating a strong sense of community involvement and continuation of long established links.
Throughout the year, Ogden Water pays host to a number of interesting events that include everything from Falconry displays, the Yorkshire Boggart Festival, a Halloween procession that attracts around 2,000 people, and of course a very traditional Father Christmas in a woodland grotto. For the energetic Ogden has three permanent orienteering courses. A school room is also available to provide environmental education or training for groups.
