About this park/green space
Blaise Castle Estate is a magnificent 120ha Grade 2 listed parkland and - with over 5000 years of history - one of Bristol’s gems. With a deep wooded limestone gorge, dramatic scenery and ancient monuments steeped in folklore, this estate is one of the most magical and romantic landscapes in the west country. With plenty to do for children as well as adults, it is easily possible to spend a whole day enjoying its varied features and many facilities.
Visit the folly castle, have a picnic on the grasslands or explore the gorge with its gurgling brook, lakes and woodlands. Wander along the winding driveway designed by renowned 18th century landscape architect Humphrey Repton to discover a timber lodge, a legend about a giant and an elegant country house - once home to the influential Harford family and now a museum of everyday life with a fascinating exhibit on the history of the estate.
In recent years the estate has seen major investment in infrastructure through the Heritage Lottery Fund project to restore the historic landscape and public park. This includes enhancement of the landscape features such as buildings, drives and lakes. Visitor facilities have been radically improved with a new café and toilets, large adventure style play area, enlarged car parks, signage and a dedicated performance space. Throughout the summer both the museum and ranger service provides a varied program of children's events and entertainment.
