About this park/green space
Leybourne Lakes Country Park has been recognised as one of the best Parks in the Country for the last three years. Situated in the heart of Kent, this Green Flag Country Park is easily accessible by road (A228), rail (New Hythe Station) or on foot (10 entrances). The Park is 93 hectares (230 acres) encompassing a range of habitats including six lakes, flower rich grasslands, shallow wetlands, scrub and woodland. The Country Park offers something for everyone from a children's play area, an activity programme for schools, a wildlife activity day, Easter and summer activities, a Junior Ranger scheme, water sport events for cubs and scouts, bird and bat walks, triathlons, canoeing, windsurfing, scuba diving, angling, walking and cycling. Visitors can also take on the 2.5km (1.5 miles) Ocean Circular Walk, using the interpretive posts to create your own poem and re-create pictures of the Park's wildlife. The Park's Mill Stream is full of dragonflies and damselflies during the spring and summer months and the lakes are home to large numbers of over-wintering birds including bitterns and occassionally waxwings. If you want to become more involved in the Country Park's management why not sign up to join the volunteer conservation group or the volunteer ranger scheme by contacting the Rangers Office.
