About this park/green space
Mayfield Park has the feel of a hidden gem, quiet and secluded yet surrounded by residential areas. There is something for everyone to enjoy in the 17 hectares of varied landscape and historical features at Mayfield Park, in the south east of Southampton. The park has formal gardens, sports grounds and large recreation areas, woodland walks, a bowling green, a play area and grade II listed buildings. The park opened in 1938 and includes the former grounds of Mayfield House, a greenway which follows an early 19th century carriageway and the Obelisk, commemorating Charles Fox the radical politician. The Friends of Mayfield Park are very active in the park contributing to and leading several events in association with the council and other community groups. The Mayfield Park Bowling Club manages the public green and the building in partnership with the council. The MIND group use the old nursery to provide the Southampton Horticultural Therapy Project and also operate a small café in the nursery which has a large variety of plants for sale. The positive partnership working and community involvement has contributed to the successful management and development of the park.
