About this park/green space
Fairy Dell is a beautiful, tranquil haven in the midst of south Middlesbrough's Housing estates. Originally the pleasure gardens of Gunnergate Hall estate, the site was redeveloped in the late seventies as part of Northumbrian water and Middlesbrough Councils flood defence program. This attractive site is now an excellent resource for the local community, visitors and wildlife. The site comprises a formal park, wooded beck valley and Gunnergate wetland complex, it is also part of the Marton West Beck wildlife corridor which runs from the very outskirts of Middlesbrough right into the heart of the town centre. The site has recently had a lot of improvements such as footpath work, woodland work, art projects, and has its own dedicated Friends of Community Group. The site is mostly used for informal recreation and is a beautiful spot to enjoy a walk or take time out from the hustle and bustle. The countryside staff and friends also organise a series of public events throughout the year and encourage its use by school groups both informally and as part of organised visits.
