Special Awards for Innovation

The Special Awards for Innovation are presented to parks/green spaces that can show that they have made changes which have brought outstanding benefits to both their site and their local community. They are also deemed to be inspirational in their commitment to continuous improvement.

Innovation is classed as something that is new to that particular site – it must have been introduced in the last three years. The innovation is not necessarily dependent upon a large financial investment, instead it must simply bring improvement to the community’s experience of the site.

Special Awards for Innovation can be given in any or all of the eight Green Flag Award® Scheme criteria. These are:

• A welcoming place
• Healthy, safe and secure
• Clean and well maintained
• Sustainability
• Conservation and heritage
• Community involvement
• Marketing
• Management
