2010 Eco-Schools Show a huge success!

24 June 2010

Keep Britain Tidy’s annual Eco-Schools Show has been a resounding success, with more than 2,000 school children attending yesterday’s event.

The show, which was held in Peterborough, featured a plethora of eco-orientated workshops, activities, shops and healthy food, making it a true a celebration of all things connected to the Eco-Schools programme!

Lord Henley in attendance
Adding to the exciting programme of activities, the show featured a special guest in the form of Lord Henley from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

As Keep Britain Tidy’s new Defra Minister, we were extremely pleased to have Lord Henley in attendance. Whilst at the show, he took time to meet with pupils and to praise them for helping to bring about genuine behaviour change in their schools and at home.

Lord Henley said: “I hope young people will be inspired by what they see here today and take what they learn back to their homes, schools and communities to encourage eco-friendly behaviour all over the country.”

Phil Barton chief executive, Keep Britain Tidy added: “We are thrilled Lord Henley is supporting the programme. The show is a chance to see the programme’s impact on schools, their achievements, and the pupils who drive the innovation."

Some new features!
New this year on the main stage were performances from two schools, Neale Wade Community College Cambridgeshire and All Saints CE Primary, Norfolk – as well as an interactive assembly from Buster the Monkey from Waste Buster!

What’s more, show-goers were treated to an appearance by the ‘fittest man in England’, Robin Simpson. The world-class endurance athlete, who is a holder of various world records, spent time running through some fitness feats with children to measure just how fit they really are.

A jam-packed schedule
The show offered a whole host of features, including: an ‘Activity Zone’ where pupils joined in with a variety of eco-activities; workshops for pupils and teachers providing practical advice on the Eco-Schools Green Flag; an ‘Ask the Experts’ area where Eco-Committees posed questions to experts; exhibitors displaying information or products for Eco-Schools; and a brand new central stage with inspiring special guests, announcements and entertainment.
