To provide an introduction to basic community outreach skills that are needed to promote pro-environmental behaviour change.

This one day course is a highly practical introduction to the fundamentals of community engagement.
The day will cover:
- Mapping your communities and their needs
- Key communication skills to present messages effectively
- What makes a great outreach event;
Level 2
Aim
To provide in-depth training on engaging communities to adopt and form environmental behaviours and demonstrating how methods can be successfully applied to enable lasting change in your community.
Suitable for
This course is ideal for those already with a basic understanding of community engagement who want to design and implement effective longer term programmes and to critically evaluate current ways of working in this area.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Identify the advantages and disadvantages of different interventions upon values, attitudes and behaviours
- Explore more integrated programmes that link up behaviours within a coherent strategy
- Understand how to engage key community figures, build their capacity and develop them as Community Ambassadors
- Monitor and evaluate qualitative community engagement programmes to show outcomes
Contents
This one day course is an ideal follow on from the ‘Introduction to Inspiring Green Communities: Part 1’ course. It will teach participants about behaviour change theory and enable critical discussions around how to apply the theory to your work in the most effective way.
The day will cover:
- Key theories in engagement including community based social marketing, nudging, value activation theory, co-production and examples of them in practice;
- How to apply such theories to your own work in a practical clear way;
- Monitoring and evaluating deeper engagement programmes to understand their wider benefits
