The Prittle Brook rises from a spring in West Wood before coursing through Leigh, Southend and Rochford. It exits into the River Roach which leads into the Thames. A pretty walkway runs parallel with much of the route. Used by dog walkers, school children, mums and cyclists, there is an abundance of wildlife, including egret, grey squirrel, fox, and kingfisher. Hornbeam, sweet chestnut grow on its banks together with elderberry and blackberry bushes. Archaelogical discoveries along the route include items from the Neolithic and Iron Age, with the biggest find at Priory Park of the Saxon King treasure. In January 2008 I decided to collect the litter strewn along the pathway between Our Lady of Lourdes School and Eastwood Road, and in March 2009 I formed The Prittle Brook Community Group. We meet once a month and to date have collected 71 bags of rubbish

Hi Everyone, I moved to Reading, Berkshire 1 year ago and have been shocked at the amount of litter that lines the streets. Literally everywhere! So after asking people to pick it up, picking it up myself and generally pulling my hair out I contacted my local Councillor to complain. One week later and the streets in my area have been tidied!! It is amazing to walk down them and look into the hedges without having rubbish stare right back at you. Moral of this story is COMPLAIN TO THE AUTHORITIES! It sometimes works! If we all complain about specific areas around where we live then this litter can get sorted. If our MPs etc realise this is the sort of thing that makes us most unhappy about where we live then they will make it a higher priority!
