Surveying the area
Small area surveys are carried out across a target area with defined boundaries such as town centres, housing areas, main retail parks and surrounding areas. The surveys will be conducted using the same methodology that underpins the Local Environmental Quality Survey of England (LEQSE) and enables the same detailed findings to be presented at a neighbourhood level.
The surveys for the programme will be delivered over an area of the partners’ choice (usually a “poorer performing” area) within the partners’ remit. A baseline survey is conducted during year one of the membership and repeated at the same time of year for each continued year of membership.
The surveys will be delivered by Keep Britain Tidy trained surveyors and will provide each member with a report containing detailed survey results, including comparison with national benchmarks, an interactive on site action planning day which will look at the results and solutions to issues which have arisen from the survey. Along with the results from the market research this will contribute to the compilation of a bespoke local action plan for the year for each partner.
Pilot evaluation feedback on the LEQ surveys and reports
“Of all the elements of work made available to the pilot organisations the combination of the small area LEQ survey and market research at the start of the programme held the most practical value.”
”The small area LEQ survey remained an important component to each of the pilot areas. In particular, representatives saw it as a method by which they could motivate and provoke more immediate response from local partners.”
“I thought that was a really, really useful tool. It was really good to have that breakdown of the different trends straight away; it is something you can use as a tool to get people to do something.”
