About Us

What is the North West Liveability Foundation?

The North West Liveability Foundation (NWLF) is a regional programme designed to drive improvements in local environmental quality encompassing the whole of the Keep Britain Tidy agenda.

This is achieved by providing a free comprehensive sub-regional programme of support and networking opportunities, as well as providing a more bespoke programme of work for the NWLF partners. Government targets on local environmental quality have been considered throughout the initiative.

The programme, which is informed and influenced by a successful year long pilot programme is managed and delivered by Keep Britain Tidy, who are working closely with the North West Improvement and Efficiency Partnership (NWIEP) who are supporting the core partner and sub-regional elements of the programme as a significant funding partner. The programme is also sponsored by the Environment Agency.

The NWLF will initially run for three years but it is anticipated that it will continue beyond this in order to meet its vision.

The programme includes:

  • Undertaking of local environmental quality surveys in all partner areas
  • Action planning based on the survey results
  • Independent resident or user perception studies
Sharing of best practice through learning days and meetings
  • Membership of the Keep Britain Tidy Network
  • For a more detailed description of the programme please visit the “What we do” section of the website.

The Importance of Local Environmental Quality (LEQ)

A 2007 research report into local environmental quality showed that “safe and secure” and “clean and tidy” are the two local environmental indicators that the public regard as: “particularly significant in helping to improve or undermine the quality of people’s lives”.

This highlights the continued public concern regarding local environmental quality and the cleaner safer greener agenda.
