Local Environment Skills

The skills to improve our local environment

If you are an employer or employee working in the local environmental quality sector visit the Local Environment Skills website to see how you could benefit. This site will help you identify current skills and provides a catalogue of related learning opportunitites from suppliers who have linked their courses to the site.  You will then be able to decide courses that can help you in your training.

By improving the skills of everyone in your local authority whose work involves local environmental management, you will be well-placed to deliver more responsive services.

It is with this in mind that the Local Environment Skills project aims to increase the quality and consistency of the local environment by up-skilling the workforce, from operatives to strategic directors.

This is done through an online skills assessment tool on the Local Environment Skills website, which can be found at www.localenvironmentskills.org. The website allows you to log on and answer a few questions about what your work currently involves.

The online tool will then analyse your answers, and identify whether there are any areas for you to improve your skills, and whether there are any areas where your skills currently exceed what is required of you. The website then suggests appropriate high-quality learning opportunities that are relevant to you.

This tool can be used to improve the skills of individuals, but it is through up-skilling whole teams as part of department-wide training initiatives that Local Environment Skills becomes most powerful.
