Food Litter

Rats feast on the food litter dropped by people

Research carried out by Keep Britain Tidy reveals a quarter of our streets are strewn with cast off food cartons, drink cans, pizza boxes and chip wrappers, yet in 2003 it stood at just 16%. The survey also reveals that most rubbish is either dropped at lunchtime when workers make the daily dash out of the office for a bite to eat or after dark when pubs and clubs have closed and the midnight munchies set in.

Keep Britain Tidy has run a number of fast food litter campaigns to help cut the amount of rubbish dumped on our streets. Partnerships have been formed with local authorities across England, commercial organisation such as McDonald’s and with TV soaps Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks to display  posters on set.

Our most recent campaign received a 31% reduction in key areas surveyed across England.
