Research carried out by Keep Britain Tidy revealed a 7% rise in the amount of syringes found on school grounds. 150,000 syringes were collected by councils in areas such as playing fields, churchyards and public toilets during 2004.
In October 2005, Keep Britain Tidy launched a hard hitting campaign with three hard hitting posters showing how dangerous syringes can be together with the slogan ‘tell – don’t touch’ to educate youngsters on what they should do if they found a drugs needle.
14,617 posters were distributed - 8,578 posters to primary schools and 4,068 posters to secondary schools
