Fly-posting

Fly-posting is the display of advertising material on buildings and street furniture without consent of the owner and contrary to the law.

  • Across most of England, fly-posting is not a major problem. However, where it does occur, it can act as a drain on local authority resources and cause areas to feel run down and even threatening.
  • Fly-posting by multi-national companies amounts to corporate anti-social behaviour and should not be tolerated.
  • Local authorities must develop a strategic response to fly-posting. This should include: prevention, enforcement and partnership working.
  • Keep Britain Tidy is currently unable to endorse legalised sites for fly-posting. At present there is minimal evidence to measure their effectiveness and the conditions
under which they work. Keep Britain Tidy would like to see legalised sites subject to a detailed review before making any recommendations.
